General Information
Information for all Corcovado Tours
- Heat and humidity are extremely high. Dehydration and heat exhaustion are common illnesses in the park. Be prepared and bring two liters of water per person and hydrating/energy drinks. You should drink 200 ml of liquid per hour. The water is potable at each ranger station. In the park, there are stretches under the sun along the beach, we recommend wearing sunblock, a hat and a long-sleeved shirt.
- Hiking experience and a good physical condition is a must. This trip is not recommended for people with asthma, heart, knees and ankles problems and/or any other health disease that may affect you during this hike.
- Meals
- If you are visiting the stations La Leona, San Pedrillo or Los Patos, you must bring your own food, as no food will be available for purchase.
- If you are visiting Sirena Station, we recommend to take the box lunch (included in the price). It is not mandatory, but highly recommended. There will be no meals available in the park without a previous reservation. The meals in Sirena Station are equilibrated, made from local ingredients and served in generous portions. Inform us of your food restrictions: special diet, allergy and intolerance.
- The only food you can take with you in Sirena is limited to nuts, dried fruit, energy bars, some snacks, hydrating drinks, juice, and water. To the other stations, you can bring sandwiches and fruits. Be careful with what you bring, specialty with meat sandwich, the weather is hot, avoid any risk of food intoxication.
- Transport
- All roundtrip transportation are included in the price from and to Puerto Jiménez or from and to Drake Bay, except for the itinerary Costa Wild Hike.
- If you have your own transportation to go to Carate or Drake Bay, you will need a 4×4, as you will cross rivers and drive on slippery and mountainous land.
- Roundtrip transportation in a touristic van from and to Puerto Jimenez costs $40 per person. It is possible to arrange pick-up and drop-off from other locations for an additional price
- Parking in Sierpe costs $6 a day at the restaurant don Jorge La Perla del Sur
- If you go to La Leona or Los Patos from Puerto Jiménez, bring your guide with you, he might shows you interesting sight on the way and you will be free to stop whenever you want to take pictures.
- If you choose an itinerary were the entrance station and exit station is different, you will not be saving money having your own transport.
- Children
- Children of all ages are welcome at every station. Let us know their age. A discount will apply if they are under 12 years old.
- Other Info
- A limited amount of people is allowed at each station, we recommend you to book early. Last minute, we can not guarantee availability.
- In case of any emergency, bring your medicine, a copy of your passport and your travel insurance information.
- You must be accompanied by a certified guide to visit Corcovado National Park.
- You must have a prepaid reservation (we take care of it as part of the booking process).
- Respect the environment: trash in / trash out; no animal feeding or hunting; smoking or entering the park with any drug or liquor is prohibited.
- Traveling off trails or without your guide is prohibited.
- Bringing pets or horseback riding inside the National Park is prohibited.
- Swimming in the sea inside the park limitation is prohibited.
- Night tours are not allowed in the Corcovado National Park. Open hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
- Launching, landing, or operating an unmanned aircraft (drones) over lands and waters without a previous authorization is prohibited. Additional fees apply for commercial purposes.
- Refunds
- Your deposit will be refunded if the park is sold out and your dates are not flexible.
- Weather
- Weather conditions in the Osa Peninsula are unpredictable, especially between September and November. If your journey has started and an unpredicted situation occurs (eg: a river can’t be crossed), we do not provide refunds.
