If you enjoy watching TV programs on Discovery Channel and reading magazines such as Outside Magazine, this is the perfect occasion to experience the remote and diverse Osa Peninsula deep into the jungle. This survival expedition will give a considering base of how to survive in the wild in a sustainable way.

How to get oriented

Discovering a new environment away from civilization time might be confusing. To prevent getting lost, there are some important tools and methods that can help you with orientation while walking across an unknown area.

How to prevent an emergency

Even if your guide will carry a First Aid Kit, it is important to know how to react effectively in an emergency. Carrying a GPS, a radio or a phone might be a huge help, but there are many ways to prevent dangerous situations. Before entering the forest your guide will prepare and make you aware of potential dangers. Then you will also learn how to face certain situations.

How to find and use medicine

In Costa Rica, many indigenous people live in the mountains, far away from towns. They use what nature provides them not only to eat and drink but also as natural remedies to prevent and cure certain diseases and release all kinds of pain. In the hot and humid tropical rainforest, different problems can arise such as a broken bone, a snake bite, a headache, fiber or insolation just to mention a few. Knowing about natural medicines can prove lifesaving.

How to build a shelter

After your guide helps you locating a safe location site, you will learn some building techniques using natural tools to build a temporary camp frame and roofing minimizing as much as possible damage impacts on the environment.

How to prepare fire

Recognizing suitable wood, resin or rocks for a fire starter is quite an important ability to have. Luckily, you won’t need the fire to stay warm as the temperature doesn’t go too low in the Osa Peninsula. However, you will need to make a fire to cook.

How to find and purify water

Finding drinkable water in an unknown and wild forest might not always be easy. There might be a river right beside you, but taking the risk of getting sick drinking its water is not worth it. If there is no spring, water vine, or other drinkable sources of water around, you should purify the water you encounter. Your guide will show you an easy and natural way of purifying water.

How to identify edible food

Food abounds in the forest. In a survival situation, the problem is recognizing it. There are some tricks that help recognize what is edible and what might not. You will learn and try different edible fruits, leaves, nuts, roots, and even insects.

How to make natural repellent

Depending on the season and the movement of the moon, mosquitos might be annoying. Find in nature what can protect you from getting bitten or stung and how to keep these pests away.
