Your journey kicks off with a 4×4 expedition, traversing the rugged terrain between Puerto Jiménez and Carate. A thrilling ride that sets the tone for your adventure through the untamed beauty of Corcovado National Park. The adventure continues on foot with an exhilarating day of exploration in a true gem of Costa Rica’s natural wonders. Venture on a dedicated adventure hike, uncovering the park’s hidden treasures. Traverse pristine beaches and witness the breathtaking biodiversity of Corcovado, including numerous ecosystems and river crossings.

Surrounded by the wild wonders of Corcovado, the two following days are dedicated for todlife. Explore all the best wildlife trails the park has to offer, accompanied by an expert naturalist guide. Observe howler monkeys, capuchins, scarlet macaws, caoties and the elusive tapirs that call Corcovado home.

Embark on an enchanting boat ride out of Sirena, immersing yourself in marine life. This unique exit to the park offers the possibility of glimpses of dolphins, seabirds, and other oceanic wonders.

Daily Itinerary

Schedule: Walk in (La Leona) – Boat out (Sirena)

Day 1. 19.5 km hike to Sirena Station

5:20 Meeting point with your guide
At the bakery in Puerto Jiménez (it opens at 5:00 AM)
If your hotel is between Puerto Jiménez and Carate, the meeting point will be in Carate.
5:30 Road Trip to Carate
43 kilometers on a gravel road (a 4WD is needed if you have your own vehicle)
Observation of wildlife along the way.
7:00 3.5 km hike to La Leona Station
1.5 km hike on the sandy beach
2 km hike in trails.
8:00 Stop at the Station
Park Registration:
Your guide will have your prepaid reservation
Bathroom
Snack (that you brought).
8:30 16 km hike up to Sirena
Flat trail following the Pacific coast (partial shade)
Madrigal River crossing (remove shoes while crossing to keep them dry)
Refreshing dip in Madrigal natural river pool.
12:00 Picnic lunch on the beach
No food available for purchase.
12:30 Mostly flat hike in the shade including the following difficulties:
River crossing: up to 1.3 meter of water if the tide is high. Depending on the tide and water conditions, you may have to wait before being able to cross or walk faster before the tide gets high. Your guide will give the indications if necessary.
Walking up a hill (1 kilometer)
Walking between sharp rocks (500 meters)
Walking different stretches on a sandy beach under the sun (total of 5.5 kilometers divided in different segments).

Day 2. Hike around Sirena biological Station

Best time to see birds and mammals including the famous tapir.

7:30 Hike in Corcovado National Park:
Los Espaveles trail: 2 km, mostly flat topography (thick and varied vegetation)
Guanacaste trail: 2 km, flat topography (impressive trees and Sirena River)
Sirena trail: 1 km, flat topography (by the mouth of Sirena river, marine life can be seen).
12:00 Box lunch at the station
Typical meal or burrito (decided by the cook).
1:00 Roaming the wild Sirena beach or relaxing at the station
6:00 Dinner at the station
Buffet and salad bar.

Day 3. National Park and heading back to Puerto Jiménez

7:00 Trail options for the last hikes:
Ollas trail: 3 km, slightly broken topography (for bird lovers)
Corcovado trail: 1 km, flat and slightly broken topography (high trees, primary forest)
Rio Claro trail: 3.5 km, flat topography (primary and secondary forest)
Los Naranjos trail: 3 km, flat topography (secondary forest, for history lovers)
Río Pavo trail: 5 km, flat topography (secondary forest, for plant lovers).

12:00 Last hike: heading back to Sirena beach
12:30 Boat ride from Sirena beach to Puerto Jiménez

  • Once entrances, lodging and meals are paid, there is no refund possible. Corcovado National Park does not provide any refunds or credits. Therefore, refunds or credits are only possible if the park is SOLD OUT on your selected dates and we are unable to make a reservation for you.
  • Changing the dates of a prepaid reservation is not possible.
  • Even if you cannot access the park due to the weather, refunds are NOT possible. You may be able to reschedule in the next 30 days if the park closes.
  • Prepaid transport will be charged if it leaves without you for any reason.
