Drake Bay – Los Patos – Sirena – Drake Bay

Embark on a daring expedition into the wild core of Corcovado National Park with our 2-day Heart of Corcovado adventure. This is not your typical stroll in the woods; it’s a call to the brave, the adventurous, and the physically robust, offering a vigorous trek through the untouched heart of the rainforest.

The journey unfolds from either Puerto Jiménez or Drake Bay, cutting a path through the dense foliage to the vibrant hub of wildlife at Sirena. Sirena is the opportunity to be surrounded by the greatest wildlife diversity of Corcovado. Wander the rainforest trails chasing some of the most novel species of a borderless animal kingdom.

On the second day, the real challenge unveils—a 25 km trek towards Los Patos, traversing the rugged, undulating trails that thread through Corcovado’s primal wilderness. This demanding stretch is where your endurance meets the wild, untamed beauty of nature.

As you navigate through the ups and downs of the trail, every step is a deeper immersion into a world less touched, where the concert of cicadas, rustling leaves, and distant calls of the wild form a melody of adventure. The flora and fauna here are in a league of their own – endemic birds flutter through the canopy, rare reptiles slither in the undergrowth, and elusive amphibians hop along the moist forest floor.

Upon reaching Los Patos, the adventure might notch up a level. Depending on the weather, the driver might be unable to reach you directly at the station due to the river’s whims. Here, an additional hour of trekking and several river crossings could await, adding a dash of thrill to the expedition. If the river proves too challenging, a detour through a 2-hour hike will lead you safely out of the forest’s embrace.

The Heart of Corcovado expedition is designed for the adventurous spirit, yet it holds a gentle allure for anyone with a deep love for nature and a good level of fitness. It’s more than a hike; it’s a test of mettle, a journey of discovery, and a narrative of endurance that resonates with the heartbeat of the wild.

Prepare to sweat, to learn, and to be awed. This is Corcovado in its rawest form, ready to astound the brave and reward the enduring with sights and experiences that linger in the soul long after the journey ends.
